WW2 in Prague. Uncover the roots of Czech democracy.
Are you ready to uncover the stories of bravery, tragedy, and resilience during WW2 in Prague?
This tour dives deep into the events that shaped Prague and reveals what made this country so free and liberal today. Through these gripping tales, we explore the sacrifices made by extraordinary people who stood against tyranny and totalitarianism.
What Happened During WW2 in Prague? And What Followed Afterward?
During World War II, Prague faced great hardship and saw incredible acts of bravery. From Nazi rule to the struggles under communism, the city’s history is shaped by those who stood up for justice and freedom.
This tour shares three powerful stories about heroes who resisted oppression. Their sacrifices show the price of freedom and the strength of the human spirit.
We start with a Czechoslovak hero.
We begin with the tale of a remarkable lawyer and politician, a staunch advocate for equality, women’s rights, and anti-Fascism. This fearless lady dedicated her life to the fight against oppression and became a symbol of resistance during WW2.
Under Nazi rule, she was relentlessly persecuted. Tragically, her oppression did not end with the war. In a dark twist of history, she was later executed by the Communist regime in a brutal show trial, a victim of Soviet-inspired purges. Her courage and sacrifice is still a reminder of the price of standing up for one’s beliefs.
Our second story introduces you to the chef sculpture of the largest statue in the world of Joseph Stalin.
It transports us to the site of one of Prague’s most infamous landmarks: the colossal statue of Joseph Stalin, once the largest of its kind in the world. Commissioned by the Communist Party in 1949, the statue loomed over the city as a stark symbol of oppression.
But the monument’s story is far more than just its construction. We uncover the tragic tale of the chief sculptor, who faced immense pressure, torment, and eventual despair during its creation. The statue’s destruction years later marked the beginning of a new chapter for Prague, but the personal toll it exacted on its creators serves as a haunting reminder of the era’s brutalities.
The third tale takes us to Prague in 1942. You will learn about the assassination of a high-ranking SS third Reich officer– number 3 in rank to Hitler.
Known as the “Butcher of Prague,” Heydrich was the third most powerful figure in the Nazi regime, and his death sent shockwaves through the Third Reich.
You’ll hear the incredible story of the brave Czechoslovak airmen who carried out this daring operation, their relentless courage, and the tragic aftermath. The tour concludes in the very catacombs where a dramatic gun battle unfolded between the airmen and the SS. To this day, bullet holes in the walls stand as a testament to their final stand.
This comprehensive experience isn’t just about the stories—it’s about immersing yourself in the history and culture of Prague.
