Join us on a moving and insightful journey through one of the oldest and most storied parts of Prague — the Jewish Quarter, or Josefov. Today, this neighborhood shines with elegant buildings and wide streets, but it was once a dense, maze-like ghetto, full of narrow alleys, hidden courtyards, and small, crowded houses. While much of that world was lost to modernization, the heart of the Jewish Quarter still beats strong — in its ancient synagogues, in its mysterious cemetery, and in the stories that have survived for centuries.

We’ll begin our tour at the Old-New Synagogue, one of the oldest still-active synagogues in Europe. Stepping inside feels like entering another world — one filled with deep traditions, whispered prayers, and echoes of the past. We’ll learn what makes a synagogue unique, discover the secrets behind its architecture, and hear tales of the legendary Rabbi Loew, who is said to have created the mythical Golem right here in Prague.

From there, we’ll visit several other fascinating sites, including the beautifully restored Maisel Synagogue, home to a rich exhibition on Jewish life in Bohemia and Moravia. Here, you’ll get a glimpse of how Jewish communities lived, what they wore, how they worshipped, and how they were often portrayed by the outside world. Expect to see centuries-old books, ceremonial objects, guild emblems, and perhaps even a cup that once belonged to a famous rabbi.

Our walk continues through the quarter as we pass by the High Synagogue and the stunning Spanish Synagogue, known for its breathtaking Moorish-style interior. We’ll also stop outside the Klausen Synagogue and the Ceremonial Hall, which are currently undergoing reconstruction, where we’ll talk about their historical roles in community life and Jewish burial customs. Just across the way stands the Jewish Town Hall, instantly recognizable for its curious clock with Hebrew numerals that runs counterclockwise — and yes, there’s a meaningful reason behind it.

We’ll finish at the Old Jewish Cemetery, one of Prague’s most hauntingly beautiful spots. Among the crooked tombstones and layers of overgrown ivy, we’ll find a tomb of the “ Polish queen”, talk about Jewish burial traditions, and learn why headstones were placed a year after death. We pay our respects at the resting places of important figures like Rabbi Loew and David Gans. Please bring a little stone with you in your pocket.

This tour is more than just a walk through a historic neighborhood — it’s a chance to connect with Prague’s Jewish heritage in a personal and meaningful way. Whether you’re drawn by the legends, the architecture, or the powerful history, this experience will leave a lasting impression.
